The New Hampshire Primary
February 19,1988

The New Hampshire primary was just eight days after the Iowa caucuses. Dole’s team was counting on their success in Iowa to provide the momentum for a New Hampshire win. The campaign, however, was taken out of commission by a surprise snow storm that forced Dole to campaign indoors, but allowed Vice President Bush to enjoy media attention. Bush defeated Dole by taking 37.6 percent of the vote to Dole’s 28.4 percent.
